Bio

A Seattle-born native, I grew up in the city’s historic Chinatown-International District neighborhood. When I was in high school, my family moved to another part of town. I came back to the “ID” several years later as a college student working at the Wing Luke Asian Museum. While there, I developed a stronger sense of identity and pride. It’s also where I began learning about desktop publishing and graphic design by producing newsletters, exhibit publications, brochures, forms and a 152-page book, Reflections of Seattle’s Chinese Americans: The First 100 Years.

Debbie Louie, web and graphic designer.

My first solo trip abroad in 1996 was a life-changing experience. I simply fell in love with Mexico and its people. When I returned to my museum job one month later, I gradually came to the realization that I just wanted to be there instead. So nearly two years later, I bought a one-way plane ticket. Without job leads or training, I embarked on my journey to become an English teacher and eventually settled in the city of Querétaro, Mexico. I have travelled extensively through much of the country as well as to Guatemala, Honduras, Cuba, Taiwan, Thailand, Hong Kong and Macau.

Returning to Seattle in 2003, I once again found work in the nonprofit arts and reacquainted myself with graphic design in addition to studying jewelry and metals at Pratt Fine Arts Center. I also delved into website maintenance. This led to web design classes, certification and a leap to Microsoft as a user experience designer.

Over the last few years, I have worked on projects for both print media and the web. I strive to help each client identify, clarify and realize their project goals. Allow me to do the same for you.
